Source: DTMR

Flinders Highway (Townsville – Charters Towers) between Burdekin Falls Dam Road and Mingela Road.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) advises that asphalt pavement maintenance works will soon commence on the Flinders Highway between Burdekin Falls Dam Road and Mingela Road.

When

  • Monday 15 June 2026 - Tuesday 16 June 2026
  • Between the hours of 7pm and 5am

(all construction subject to weather and construction conditions)

What to expect

While project works can sometimes cause delays for motorists, the changed traffic conditions at roadworks sites, such as reduced speed limits and lane closures, are essential for the safety of both roadworkers and motorists.  Road users can expect the following changed traffic conditions during these works:
  • single lane closures and moderate delays
  • speed restrictions
  • noise associated with the use of heavy machinery
  • traffic controllers will be onsite during active construction hours to direct traffic
  • access to all properties will remain open at all times
  • during out of work hours, two-way traffic will be maintained throughout the entire site
  • once maintenance works are completed motorists may notice traffic management signs still in place until all works including line marking, pavement markers and signs are reinstated
  • advanced warning signs will also be in place on approaches to the work area, notifying road users of the changed conditions.
Road users are asked to drive carefully through the roadwork zones, follow directions of traffic controllers and adhere to reduced speed limits. All work is subject to construction progress and weather conditions. In the event of wet weather or unforeseen circumstances, activities will be rescheduled for the next available shift.

For the safety of road users and maintenance crews, changed traffic conditions will be in place including temporary speed limit reductions and restricted access measures under the coordination of traffic controllers when required.

Variable message signs will be in place on the approaches to the work site to ensure motorists are aware in advance of the changed traffic conditions.
