Heavy vehicle operators travelling between Lithgow and Katoomba are being advised to plan ahead for significant traffic impacts following the Supercars Bathurst 1000.
The Bathurst 1000 will be held from Thursday 8 October to Sunday 11 October 2026, with increased traffic expected on the Great Western Highway as spectators leave the region.
Due to the ongoing closure of Victoria Pass, traffic will be detoured via Chifley Road and Darling Causeway, with delays of up to an hour or more expected during peak periods.
Further traffic impacts are also expected following the introduction of Lap 162, a new Bathurst Regional Council event being held in Bathurst on Monday afternoon.
Heavy vehicle operators are now advised to avoid eastbound travel between Lithgow and Katoomba, where possible, during the following periods:
- Monday 12 October: 8am to 4pm
- Tuesday 13 October: 8am to 1pm
Operators travelling through the area should allow additional travel time and consider alternative travel arrangements where practical.
