What to expect
Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions at Wallaby Rocks Bridge on Hill End Road, west of Sofala, following the identification of deterioration in a bridge supporting structure during engineering inspections.
To ensure the ongoing safety of road users, Transport for NSW will implement a temporary 10-tonne load limit on the bridge while additional assessments and investigations are carried out.
The bridge will remain open to light vehicles, with current engineering assessments indicating it is safe for vehicles under the load limit to continue using the bridge.
Vehicles over 10 tonnes will need to use an alternate route via Sofala Road and the Castlereagh Highway.
Local heavy vehicle operators using the detour route may need to allow up to an additional 1.5 to 2 hours travel time, depending on their origin and destination.
Transport is undertaking further inspections and investigating temporary strengthening options to allow us to restore increased access as quickly as possible while maintaining the safety of the travelling public.
At this stage there are no plans to fully close the bridge.
