There will be changed traffic conditions on the Newcastle Road eastbound on- ramp connecting to the northbound lanes of the Newcastle Inner City Bypass at Jesmond from Wednesday 10 June for up to seven nights, weather permitting.
Work will be carried out at night between 7pm and 5am, Sunday to Thursday, weather permitting.
During the work, the northbound on ramp from Newcastle Road eastbound lanes onto the Newcastle Inner City Bypass will be closed.
Heavy vehicles under notice will be detoured eastbound along Newcastle Road and turn north onto Lambton Road, continue north via Edith Street and Lorna Street, then west along University Drive to rejoin Newcastle Inner City Bypass, which may add up to 15 minutes to journeys.
Oversize and/or Overmass (OSOM) operators that are unable to take alternative routes during the road closure, are advised to contact the project team at least one day ahead of movement on 1800 818 433. Significant delays will occur if failure to contact. On arrival, OSOM operators must park on the shoulder of Newcastle Road between The Crescent and Drury Street and use UHF channel 29 and await detour directions.
Vehicles travelling on Newcastle Road westbound lanes can still turn right onto the Newcastle Inner City Bypass, as this on ramp will remain open, reduced to one lane.
Lane closures, traffic control, reduced speed limits and signage will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists.
Please note vehicles travelling under a permit must not travel off the approved route listed in the permit unless an updated permit is obtained from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
