NSW: Changes to unpaid Tolls (Linkt)

Road Conditions --> (07 July, 2026)

Source: Linkt

Linkt is advising customers about upcoming changes to the unpaid tolls process in NSW. If you already have an active toll account, you don’t need to do anything — however, it’s important you’re aware of what’s changing.

These changes are part of a NSW Government toll reform program and will be introduced from July 2026 onwards.

What's changing

Digital reminders for unpaid trips

If you travel on a toll road without paying, you may receive an Unpaid Toll Reminder by email. If your tolls remain unpaid, you may receive a Toll Payment Demand email (this replaces toll notices). SMS alerts will be phased in from September.

Email and SMS reminders will be sent by NSW Motorways using the contact details linked to your vehicle registration.

Administration Fees

Toll notices will no longer by issued from mid-July 2026, and toll notice administration fees will be switched off. Administration fees still apply to toll notices issued before mid-July 2026 and will need to be paid.

Earlier notifications and quicker enforcement action

Notification for unpaid tolls will be issued earlier, but enforcement action such as fines or debt collection can happen sooner if you don’t pay.

Responsibility for unpaid tolls

Under NSW Roads Regulation, the registered vehicle owner is responsible for unpaid tolls, even if they were not driving at the time. Driver nominations won’t be available for Toll Payment Demands.

What these changes mean for you

These changes are designed to address unpaid tolls. If you have an active toll account for your vehicle(s) before you travel, you don’t need to do anything – you’re already good to go.

Always make sure you have an active toll account and you’ve added all vehicles to your account before you travel on a toll road.

You also will no longer be able to nominate another driver for travel that your vehicle took.
