Transport for NSW advises the Great Western Highway at Victoria Pass is currently closed to all traffic in both directions for urgent road repairs. Due to the sensitive nature of the area, including the heritage structure, the works are being treated with great caution.
The closure will remain in place for at least 3 months.
Currently no vehicles of any size are permitted to travel over Mitchells Causeway on Victoria Pass, including emergency vehicles.
Transport NSW has positioned clear signage advising that the Great Western Highway is closed at Victoria Pass. Hard closure points are in place at the top and bottom of Victoria Pass to ensure that no traffic attempts to use the Pass.
The detour along Main Street, Chifley Road and the Darling Causeway is suitable for general access vehicles and Performance Based Standards (PBS) Level 1 heavy vehicles up to 20 metres long.

Please note
Class 1 Oversize and/or Over Mass (OSOM) vehicles and Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV) cannot currently be accommodated on the Chifley Road/Darling Causeway detour route.
Restricted access heavy vehicle operators who are unable to travel on an approved Notice Network are advised to delay their journeys. If you cannot delay your travel, please apply for an amended permit via NHVR Go.
The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) will also be increasing its presence in the area to support compliance with current heavy vehicle restrictions.
Transport NSW reminds operators who require a NHVR-issued permit that they must only travel on the roads approved in their permit.
Below is a map of alternate route options to/from Sydney.

Details of the detours for general traffic and heavy vehicles are available at LiveTraffic.com and we will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.
