NSW: Hills M2 Mtwy update

Road Conditions (27 July, 2026)

Source: Transport for NSW

Transport for NSW advises of resurfacing work on the M2 Hills Motorway will start this Sunday, 26 July 2026 until late October 2026 between Windsor Road and the M2 Epping-Norfolk tunnel.

Works will occur

  • 26 July 2026 until late October 2026

  • Sunday to Thursday nights between 9pm and 5am

What to expect

Previously it was advised of the Beecroft Road westbound off-ramp, however, further traffic condition changes will also be required.

M2 Motorway width restrictions

During work hours in August, vehicles wider than 4.4 metres will need to be escorted through the site by traffic control. Operators of these vehicles are required to contact the M2 Control Room on 02 9086 6400 to advise of travel at least two days prior.

Operators are advised that once pavement work starts in September, over-width vehicles will be required to park on the motorway shoulder until all lanes re-open.

In addition to the above, a reminder that all operators of a vehicle or combination exceeding 3.5 metres wide must contact the M2 operator on OSOMaccess@transurban.com at least five working days before travel.

Ramp closures

Several westbound on and off ramps will also require periodic closures during some shifts. The following closures and detours will be in place:

  • Pennant Hills Road on-ramp - detour via Pennant Hills Road, Castle Hill Road, Old Northern Road and Windsor Road on ramp OR Pennant Hills Road, Cumberland Highway and Windsor Road on ramp.

  • Pennant Hills Road off-ramp - detour via the Windsor Road off-ramp, to James Ruse Drive and Pennant Hills Road.

  • Beecroft Road off-ramp - detour via Pennant Hills Road off-ramp, Carlingford Road and Beecroft Road.

These detour routes are suitable for all vehicles however due to the nature of the work, specific dates for the ramp closures are not able to be provided in advance. TfNSW advise that the alternate routes should be included for all permit requests until the end of October.
