Road Conditions (18 December, 2025)

Source: Transport for NSW

Transport for NSW is pleased to announce the opening of the new Menangle Truck Parking Bay on 19 December 2025. We have located the new Menangle Truck Parking Bay along the northbound section of the Hume Motorway in Menangle, opposite to Partridge VC Rest Area.

The new site will serve heavy vehicles only and can accommodate oversize overmass (OSOM) vehicles up to 125m long and 8m wide. Key features include:

  • 300 metre deceleration lane
  • 575 metre acceleration lane
  • 5000 square metre parking area

We have listened to industry feedback and will be adding toilet facilities by early 2026. The new site replaces the temporary facility at Moolgun Creek.

New Menangle Truck Parking Pay

Why are we doing this

Menangle Truck Parking Bay replaces the former ‘Dust Bowl’ informal stopping area on the Hume Motorway, which closed during the construction of Spring Farm Parkway Stage 1.

The Hume Motorway is one of Australia’s most important freight routes, connecting Sydney and Melbourne.
We know how important it is for our freight drivers to have safe places to stop and rest.

OSOM vehicles, those over 3.5m wide and 22m long, can only travel through the NSW Urban Zone between 9:30pm & 5:30am. Without this site, OSOM vehicles have limited options in and around the Urban Zone to stop and rest outside those permitted hours.

By opening the Menangle Truck Stopping Bay, we fill a critical gap for the road freight industry.

What else is happening on The Hume

Transport for NSW is continuously maintaining or upgrading sections of the highway. This work is important to provide a safe and efficient highway for the large number of vehicles that use it daily.

This includes current resurfacing work being carried out within the Menangle area. For more information on traffic impacts along this road, please visit Live Traffic NSW or Hume Highway – traffic impacts |Transport for NSW.
