Road Conditions FNQ: Kennedy Highway and Mareeba - Dimbulah Road Intersection, Mareeba

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) advise works are progressing on safety upgrades at the intersection of the Kennedy Highway and Mareeba-Dimbulah Road (locally known as Byrnes Street), Mareeba to fully signalise the intersection.

To allow for various construction activities and to minimise impacts on nearby businesses, residents and road users, the project will be carried out as a combination of day and night works. Crews will be onsite between 6 am and 6 pm for day works and between 6am and 6pm for night works.

Night works will be carried out for asphalt resurfacing from 2 to 7 September 2024, weather and construction conditions permitting. Day works will also be ongoing during this time. The contractor will take all reasonable and practical actions to minimise impacts as for nearby residents as much as possible.

TMR will advise if any further night works are required as the project progresses. The intersection upgrade is expected to be completed in mid-January 2025, weather and construction conditions permitting.

For the safety of road users and maintenance crews, changed traffic conditions will be in place including speed limit reductions and single lane closures under the coordination of traffic controllers/traffic lights while the works are carried out.
