Road Conditions Update: QLD-SC-Bruce Highway-Curra to Cooroy Section D (from 28/8/23)
Construction is progressing well on the new Curra interchange at the northern end of the Bruce Highway Upgrade – Cooroy to Curra, Section D (Gympie bypass) project. The new all-movements interchange will connect the new four-lane highway with the existing two-lane highway in Curra, including connections to and realignment of Harvey Siding and Ashfords roads.
A number of traffic changes will occur over the coming weeks including:
Night works
For approximately three weeks from Monday 28 August 2023, night works will be required to prepare for the opening of new roads and apply the finishing touches once the roads are open. Activities will include line marking, barrier and lighting relocation and installation, and asphalt works.
Day works will continue to progress and include activities such as sealing, asphalting, landscaping and electrical works. They will be carried out between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
Realigned section of Ashfords Road opens to local traffic only
From Tuesday 5 September 2023 (weather and construction conditions permitting), the realigned section of Ashfords Road, on the eastern side of the new highway, will open to local traffic only. The new interchange bridge and roundabouts will also open to local traffic and connect the realigned road to Harvey Siding Road.
Once these new arrangements are in place, the temporary road across the project site between Harvey Siding and Ashfords roads will permanently close.
Traffic transferred onto new section of Bruce Highway
Within a week of the realigned Ashfords Road opening (weather and construction condition permitting), all Bruce Highway traffic will be transferred onto a new 1.4km section of carriageway on the western side of the existing highway, just north of the interchange. This will allow for work to be carried out on the existing highway and connections into the new highway.
