Overmass and Oversize permit restrictions remain in place.

BARKLY HIGHWAY - effective 10 May 2024 Vehicles operating under an Oversize/Overmass permit are permitted to travel under the restriction without a special consent provided that:

  • The vehicle does not exceed the axle mass limits for load carrying combinations period/general permits, up to a maximum of 35 tonnes mass on trailer/platform axle group (refer to figure 1).

AND

  • The width of vehicle and load does not exceed 3.5 metres.

Please note:

  • Special consent applications for vehicles that do not fit the above conditions will not be considered or approved.
  • The Overmass and Oversize permit restrictions will lift 3 June 2024.
  • Repairs to pavement and shoulders will continue and several sections between the Stuart Highway and Barkly Homestead are reduced to single lane.
  • Heavy vehicle operators are advised to give way to oncoming traffic and maintain radio communications, where possible.

Stuart Highway
No current vehicle restrictions in place, however flood damage has occurred at several locations.

Tablelands Highway

• 13 axle restriction remains in place

• No overmass and oversize permits.

Unsealed roads across the Barkly region have also sustained significant flood damage. Drivers are encouraged to take caution on these roads and check for road conditions and any restrictions prior to travel. www.roadreport.nt.gov.au continues to be the most up-to-date source for road closures and access.
