SEQ: Temporary closures and detours - Toowoomba

 The Department of Transport and Main Roads advise that the Toowoomba Running Festival will take place on Sunday, 3 May 2026.
 
 Several intersections will be temporarily closed during the event with detours in place.

Short-term road closures
  • 4.30AM to 10:00AM – New England Highway at the Margaret Street and Hume Street intersection, Toowoomba.
  • 4:30AM to 8:15AM – New England Highway at the Ruthven Street and Long Street intersection, Toowoomba.
  • 6:15AM to 6:30AM – Toowoomba Connection Road at the James Street and Kitchener Street intersection, Toowoomba. This intersection will be under police control and traffic release will be at their discretion if queues become too long.
Detours
Detour via West Street, Toowoomba (Figure 1):
  • Heavy vehicles up to 25m B-double travelling through Toowoomba on the New England Highway will be detoured via West Street. Hume Street will be inaccessible to heavy vehicles between 4:00AM and 10:00AM. Detour signage in place to guide motorists.

  

 Detour via Alderley Street, Toowoomba (Figure 2):

  • Traffic on the southern side of the Ruthven Street and Long Street intersection in Toowoomba will be detoured via Alderley Street and West Street back to James Street between 4:30 AM and 8:15 AM. Access for buses and local traffic will remain available. Detour signage in place to guide motorists.
