SEQ: Warrego Hwy Karalee, temporary full closure of the Bremer River westbound bridge - November 2026

Road Conditions (20 October, 2026)

Source: TMR, Heavy Vehicles Unit

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) advises that in addition to the temporary full closure in October, commencing 10 pm Friday 6 November 2026 to 5 am Monday 9 November 2026 there will be a full closure of the westbound section of the Bremer River Bridge on the Warrego Highway, Karalee.

During this closure general traffic will be diverted onto the eastbound Bremer Bridge utilising the existing median cross over under controlled traffic management.

What to expect

Oversize loads exceeding 3.5m in width will be required to use a temporary detour via Walloon, using the Cunningham Highway, Ipswich-Rosewood Road and Haigslea-Amberley Roads (see detour map below). Heavy vehicle operators are reminded to follow detour signage when travelling along this detour route.

Oversize overmass (OSOM) loads, or vehicles, seeking access to the detour route during the closure period that exceed any current restrictions in the Conditions of Operation Database (CoOD), must apply for a special assessment permit through the NHVR Portal.

Timing

  • Relieving slab concreting works will occur from 10 pm Friday 6 November 2026 to 5 am Monday 9 November 2026, weather and construction conditions permitting.
  • Weekend works have been scheduled to avoid weekday peak traffic periods and to minimise disruption to the road network.
  • While most of the works will be undertaken during this time, some extra works may be required.

Impacts

  • Temporary traffic changes include full temporary closure of the westbound bridge, and traffic detours for oversize loads.
  • OSOM loads, or vehicles, seeking access to the detour route during the closure period that exceed any current restrictions in the Conditions of Operation Database (CoOD), must apply for a special assessment permit through the NHVR Portal.
  • Larger oversize loads not permitted to take the Walloon detour (map below), will be detoured on the Cunningham Highway via Cunninghams Gap. This detour has been in place for over 3 years for larger OSOM loads, due to the Bremer west bound restriction.
  • Please allow extra time when planning your travel and follow the directions of roadside signage and traffic controllers.
