The VTA invites you to attend their upcoming Safety Management System (SMS) in Transport Workshop, designed to help operators prepare for significant regulatory changes coming into effect under the updated Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) in 2026.
Facilitated by Supply Chain Compliance, this session provides practical, actionable guidance on building and implementing an effective SMS tailored to heavy vehicle operations.
Upcoming HVNL reforms commencing mid 2026 will introduce the most significant shift in safety and compliance obligations in more than a decade. The changes will mandate Safety Management Systems (SMS) across the supply chain, moving the industry from reactive compliance to proactive risk management.
The reforms also embed SMS requirements into accreditation frameworks, meaning operators will no longer be able to rely solely on documentation or minimal compliance to gain or maintain accreditation.
While the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) will transition into a new two-tier framework, the direction is clear: No SMS = No accreditation pathway.
Operators must be able to demonstrate an active, functional, risk-based safety system to participate in any future accreditation model. The workshop will help you understand what these changes mean in practice — and how to prepare now to ensure your business remains compliant, competitive and accreditation ready.
