The reference design for the Logan West Upgrade has been released, outlining proposed improvements to the western section of the Logan Motorway aimed at improving safety, traffic flow and connectivity.

The design has been informed by community and stakeholder consultation undertaken in late 2024, which identified motorway congestion, local connectivity, access to on and off ramps, and improved accessibility for emergency services and oversized vehicles as key priorities.

The proposed upgrade focuses on the section of the Logan Motorway where congestion is currently most significant, with a range of targeted improvements included in the reference design.

Key proposed improvements

The reference design includes:

  • Additional motorway lanes in each direction between the Centenary Motorway and Mount Lindesay Highway to help reduce congestion.
  • Ramp metering at on ramps along the project corridor during peak travel periods to support safer merging and improve traffic flow.
  • Upgrades to selected on and off ramps to improve traffic movements and reduce congestion on surrounding roads.
  • Smart motorway technology to improve traffic flow and provide live traffic information.
  • Noise monitoring and modelling to determine whether additional mitigation measures are required.
  • Environmental protection measures, including retaining existing fauna crossings and exclusion fencing where possible and installing additional exclusion fencing where required.

The project will remain focused on targeted improvements to the western section of the Logan Motorway. Feedback received during consultation regarding broader motorway extensions, local road improvements and active transport alternatives has also been recorded for consideration as part of potential future upgrades.

The Logan West Upgrade reference design remains indicative and subject to approvals, with the design to continue to be refined through the detailed design phase.

Further information and the full reference design are available via the Logan West Upgrade website.
