FNQ: Gulf Developmental Road rock blasting

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is progressing works to widen a single lane section to two lane full width sealed section on the Gulf Developmental Road (GDR) between Georgetown and Mt Garnet near the Gregory Developmental Road intersection.
This $12.06 million project is Package 4 of works jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments.
The works will widen a section of 2.5km kilometres of single lane road to two lane full width sealed sections. The works include earthworks increase the width of the road, construction of new pavement, full width sprayed seal, culverts work, line making, adjustment of light poles, signs and crash barriers where required.
CONTROLLED ROCK BLASTING – EXPECT DELAYS UP 30 MINUTES
Tuesday 23 September between 7.30am and 5.30pm.
As part of these works, crews will be carrying out blasting of boulders on the Gulf Developmental Road between Georgetown and Mt Surprise approximately 30 kilometres from Mt Surprise.
The road will be intermittently closed for up to 30 minutes between 7.30am and 5.30pm on Tuesday 23 September 2025.
For the safety of workers and road users, traffic controllers will be on site. Road users are asked to follow all traffic management directions and allow for extra travel in your journey.
Variable Message Boards (VMS) will be in place on the approaches to the work sites, prior to the works starting. Motorists should plan their journey accordingly.
