FNQ: Reconstruction Works - Mossman - Mount Molloy Road

Source: Department of Transport and Main Roads

Progress Works

From Monday 13 October 2025 works will begin on three upslope landslips down the range from Mossman-Mount Molloy Road Lookout (Mossman direction of travel).

To allow the safe movement of heavy machinery and progress of reconstruction works a section of road from the lookout to a traffic control point about 1.5 kilometres towards Mossman will be under single lane traffic control.

We are working to minimise delays for road users as much as possible.

Road users may experience delays of up to 10 minutes during works.

We ask road users to plan their journey in advance.

  • Rock fill has been completed at the downslope slip 1.5 kilometres from Mossman-Mount Molloy Lookout (towards Mossman) after the extensive slope stabilisation works.
  • Pavement repairs have been completed with guardrail restoration currently underway ahead of the site reopening to lanes in October 2025, subject to site and weather conditions.

Traffic control

  • Three upslope sites are targeted for reconstruction between Mossman-Mount Molloy Road Lookout to a traffic control point approximatley 1.5 kilometres down range (towards Mossman).
  • This section of the road will be under single lane traffic control while these works are underway including the lookout which will be closed for the duration of the works.
  • Delays of up to 10 minutes are expected due to single lane traffic control arrangements.
  • We thank road users for their patience and urge people travelling on Mossman-Mount Molloy Road to plan their journey in advance.

Betterment works

Almost $49 million in works is being undertaken to build back better on eight state-controlled roads damaged by ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

Works will be delivered through the 2023–24 Betterment Fund. The extraordinary disaster assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

As part of the betterment works TMR will be improving drainage and pavement resilience at multiple sites along Mossman-Mount Molloy Road.

The betterment works will be delivered along with current reconstruction projects and aim to minimise future damage from severe weather and reduce road closures during and after disasters.
